call for participation

The admission is open to post-graduate students and early-career researchers who have a strong interest in critical thinking and share the research interests broadly associated with the scope of the summer school. We also welcome other scholars and activists who are already working in the field. If you are interested in the following research areas, we encourage you to join us!

  • The political economy approach to capitalism, digitalisation, and environment
  • Digital economy: AI, platform economy, digital finance, datafication, digital labour, digital divide and inequality
  • Green transition: energy technologies, policy and governance, economic and social impacts, environmental justice and equity

The International Workshop and Summer School on the Political Economy of Green-Digital Transition offers participants the unique opportunity to engage with the international peers and experienced scholars through rich, participatory, and multidisciplinary academic exchanges.

You will get to learn from the cutting-edge researchers, present your work, receive feedback, and sharpen your research ideas around the highly topical and relevant issue of green-digital transition through critical lenses. It will be a space for building cooperation, partnerships and even joint publications.

Both the workshop and summer school offer academic credits. If you intend to receive the academic credits, you are expected to have full attendance and submit a learning essay by the end of the event. More information will be shared with you after registration and admission.

Outside of academic engagements, the city of Lappeenranta offers beautiful forests, lakes, saunas, and fireplaces for relaxing outdoors social activities. You will get an authentic experience with the Finnish summer alongside intellectual connections.

Both events, workshop and summer school, are free to attend.

The workshop is open for anyone who submits a registration.

The summer school can host up to 15 participants to present their work. Due to the limited number of available places, prospective participants are requested to submit a paper abstract in the registration process, and will only be admitted after they have passed a selection process. Selected summer school participants are expected to deliver a 15-minute paper presentation and will receive feedback from a senior academic (one of our guest speakers).

There are three ways to participate, by joining either the workshop, the summer school, or both. Every option entails a different programme, and results in different a number of credits awarded. It is worth noting that there is no funding to support your participation, unfortunately. Accommodation is not provided and must be arranged and paid for by participants. However, we can assist if you need logistics and itinerary support.
